What is Introduction to Data Science?
Introduction to Data Science (IDS) is the leading national provider of high school data science education materials, professional development, and technological support.
IDS is a C-approved mathematics course in the University of California A-G Requirements. IDS directly addressed the Common Core State Standards for High School Statistics & Probability and Practices for Modeling.
IDS immediately engages students with real data, introducing statistical, computational, and graphical tools for reasoning about the world. It teaches students to think critically about data in all forms.
What You Will Learn
How the IDS Technology Suite works to connect students to real-time data collection and interpretation
How to bring IDS to your school or district – as early as September 2025!
How it Works
Teachers are Trained
In year 1, teachers engage in nine days of PD, with a focus on implementation of the IDS curriculum, which comprises lessons and RStudio labs
Curriculum Implemented
Students are welcomed into Introduction to Data Science classes where they gather and interpret data for real-world utilization
Ongoing Support and PD
In year 2, there are four days of advanced IDS PD that emphasize continued development of data analysis, RStudio skills, and a deeper dive into IDS concepts
Hands-on Data Collection
All aspects of IDS are hands-on for your students.
Students – alone or in groups – use their personal mobile devices and web services to systematically gather data from their everyday lives and explore interesting aspects of their worlds, ranging from health to culture.
